-majid ziaee

Born in Mashhad (1982), based in Tabriz. He is a faculty member of Tabriz Islamic Art University (TIAU) and also a PhD candidate in Art and Research at Shahed University, Tehran, Iran. He has completed his BA in crafts and MA in Islamic Art majoring ceramics. Special attention on ceramic as medium and its use in environment is evident in most of his projects. As of bachelor's project, he did an installation of ceramic birds in the campus of TIAU, which narrated the story of The Conference of Birds by Farid ud-Din Attar. In order to conduct his Master's final project, he made an attempt to find a method to make ceramic sculptures in huge size and to investigate to present shapes in accordance with the surrounding area. The maquettes made to serve the purpose of his thesis were awarded the judge's special prize at Iran Contemporary Ceramic Biennale.

Majid starts his work at TIAU right after completing his studies. He first takes classes and then works as the head of glass and ceramics department. Over this period, thank to his connections and interactions with the students, he leads various group projects like kiln-sculpture and wood-fired kilns. Kiln-sculpture is a rather huge structure and when built, without bothering to transfer the works to the kiln, fired at same places it built. These sculptures were designed to provide space for tiny birds like sparrows; indeed, the environmental aspects of a structure were taken into consideration. In wood-fired kilns, however, social aspects and interaction among people over the process is of importance. The project, which started four years ago and is still in action, was aimed to creating jobs for villagers and developing the function of pottery in rural areas.

In 2016, he attended the residency program and Global Nomadic Art Project of Yatoo center, which was held in South Korea and lasted for one month. Observing nature art and experiencing ephemeral works open a new gateway for him. The experience was further developed when he was invited to participate in a project which was organized by the same center in Iran, France, and Lithuania. His recent experience includes working with nature elements, found objects in the nature, and doing performance with one's body.
